LKS 2009 Sportsman of the Year

Don York Chosen as the League's 2009 Sportsman of the Year.

The Sportsman of the Year Committee selected Don York as Kentucky's 2009 Sportsman of the Year.

Mr. York has been a member of the Kenton Game and Fish Association for 34 years and has served as a Trustee, Treasurer, and Vice President of that organization. He has been a member of the Fifth District Federation for the same time period and has often been a Volunteer and Committee Member of the Handicapped Kids Fishing Derby, the Youth Sports Fest, and the Federation Fair.

Don is a 44-year member of the National Rifle Association and an instructor in the Kentucky Hunter Education Program for six years.

His most well-known service to the cause of conservation and education, however, has been as Treasurer of both the League of Kentucky Sportsmen (LKS) and the Kentucky Wildlife Federation Foundation (KWFF.).  In addition, he acted as KWFF Secretary for five years and as that group's Scholarship Chair for eight years.

He has acted in the Treasurers' offices - often simultaneously - under five League Presidents and a similar number of KWFF Presidents for a combined total of 24 years - 12 years in each office.  During this lengthy period, Mr. York's expertise and sound judgment and advice have often served as a center of common sense and reason around which the organizations revolved.

For these and other invaluable contributions to both the League and the Foundation, Don received the of Sportsman of the Year, for 2009.  He joins a long list of other Kentuckians who have made an invaluable contribution to the League and the Sportsmen and Women of Kentucky
